This amazing island is a tropical gem located in the warm blue waters off the country's south-eastern seaboard. It is just 21 kilometers at its widest point and 25 at its longest, and it is also 295 mile or 475 km south of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.
Before tourism development the island was a major producer of coconuts and partly-processed coconut products for export to the Thai mainland and other countries. Originally, it was to be the area of coconut plantations, but after being discovered by backpacked travelers, it was noted by them as a peaceful and magnificent paradise some time 20 years ago.
